Transparent Fish
Transparent Fish is a hand-made picture book for children which is inspired by my personal experience and thoughts while growing up.
When I was younger, I was struggling about finding my own identity. I relied on affirmations from the outside for self-recognition. Once losing the affirmations, the unsettled feeling raised. Later, I started to realize we all have different personalities, even though they might seem weird, silly, useless, etc., they have their own values. To embrace our true self is important. When you truly believe in yourself, the affirmations and definitions from the outside don’t matter anymore and they can’t change nor define us.
Through the experience of the transparent fish, this picture book illustrates a story about self-growing and embracing your true self. I explored different kinds of methods to paint this story, including gouache, ink, crayon, colour pencils and collage to present the colourful ocean and the various characteristics.
This is my self-project. Unpublished.
